Lanett teenager arrested for theft after arranging purchase on Facebook Marketplace

According to a news release from the Lanett Police Department, on September 12, 2022, 19-year-old Nicholas Walton of Lanett was arrested for 1st robbery in reference to an earlier department news release.
On June 14, 2022, Lanett Police Department officers responded to Greenwood Church on Veterans Memorial Parkway in reference to a subject (Walton) with a gunshot wound.
The press release indicates that the investigation revealed that a theft had taken place at this location. Walton had agreed to buy an Xbox game console from an individual on Facebook Market Place and had met the individual at Greenwood Church. During the encounter, Walton pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the head of the subject he was buying the console from.
A third individual observed the incident, drew his own gun and shot Walton.
The Lanett Police Department reminds citizens to exercise caution when meeting strangers to buy and sell items. Always choose a public, well-lit and highly visible place with cameras to meet you. The Lanett Police Department parking lot or a busy retail parking lot are favorable locations.
